The Department of Economics and International Economic Relations was established in 2006. Since 2017, the Department is a structural unit of the Institute of Law, Economics and International Relations. Head of the Department - Doctor of Economics, Professor Golovchenko O.M.
The department provides high-quality training of specialists who have relevant professional, social and personal knowledge and skills, in accordance with the directions of reforming higher education in Ukraine, its European integration and the needs of the labor market.
The strategic goal of the department is to prepare a highly qualified specialist of a new level in economics and international relations, that is able to be competitive in the European labor market on the basis of a balanced combination of fundamental knowledge and practical skills.
The list of educational programs implemented by the department:
1. At educational qualification level "junior specialist degree": "Economics".
2. At the first (bachelor) level of higher education: "Economics", "International economic relations", "Entrepreneurship, trade, and exchange activities", "Hotel and restaurant business".
3. At the second (master) level of higher education: "Economics", "International economic relations", "Entrepreneurship, trade and exchange activities".
4. At the third (educational-scientific) level of higher education: "Economics".
In the process of development and implementation of educational programs, the department involves leading practitioners, representatives of public authorities, faculty staff of higher education institutions and research institutions of Ukraine.
In order to study the best European experience in the implementation of educational programs, approaches to the formation and development of fundamental and flexible skills in the specialties of the department, a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Warsaw University of Management (Poland) was signed. At the moment, the work of the department for the development of a memorandum of cooperation with the Department of Culture and Tourism of the Odessa City Council is carried out.
The department's partners in the process of practical training and providing employment opportunities for graduates of educational programs are the leading enterprises of Odessa, including PJSC CB "Pivdenny", JSC CB "Privatbank", LLC "Bulgar-travel-tour", LLC "Mozart hotel group" , Departments of Internal Policy, Culture and Tourism of Odessa City Council, Odessa Customs of the State Tax Service of Ukraine, Federation of Employers of Ukraine and others.
The teaching of disciplines within the educational programs is carried out with the use of the latest educational technologies, the involvement of practitioners, the usage of multimedia tools.
The teaching staff of the Department of Economics and International Economic Relations are experienced scientists with practical experience, 3 of which have doctor`s degrees and 5 of which have Ph.D. degrees in Economics.
All teachers are authors of scientific and methodological works, including those belonging to Scopus and Web of Science international metric bases, have passed internships on the profile of educational programs with specialties in scientific and educational centers in Ukraine and abroad: Odesa I.I. Mechnikov National University, Institute of Market Problems and Economic-Ecological Research of the  NAS of Ukraine; Odesa State Agrarian University, Odesa Regional Institute for Public Administration of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine under the President of Ukraine, Jesuit University Ignatianum in Krakow, Prague Institute for Qualification Enhancement, University of Bologna.
The staff of the department takes part in international scientific projects, training, round tables and more. From 2015 to 2019, representatives of the department participated in a training seminar within the framework of the USAID program on the topic: "WTO Dispute Settlement Mechanism and Trade Defense", a series of trainings with the participation of experts from EU countries within the project "543681-TEMPUS- 1-2013-1-DE-TEMPUS-JPHES - CruiseT » on topics:« Tourism Marketing and Product Development », « Service Quality in the Hospitality Sector: Standards and Tools », « Sustainable destination management »,« Marketing and promotion of the destination ».
It should be noted that there is a steady increase in the number of teachers of the department with scientific degrees and academic titles. Thus, since 2016, three Ph.D. theses have been successfully defended, and in 2019 the department recommended the assignment of the academic title of associate professor.

At the Research Center of the V.E. Tairov Institute of Viticulture and Enology branch of the Department of Economics and International Economic Relations was established. Annually, round tables are held on the problems of economic development of enterprises on the basis of the Institute, lecturers of the department make scientific reports and take part in the Days of Science held at the Institute of Viticulture and Enology.
Scientific pieces of research of the department's lecturers on specific directions and problems of development of national and world economies are accumulated in the unified research work of the department on the topic: "Maritime regions in the world economy and processes of globalization" (state registration number 0117V005588).
The teachers of the department carry out research work with students. Annually, the faculty of the department conducts the Interuniversity Scientific-Practical Student Conference "Issues of Improving the Efficiency of National Economy of Ukraine in the Globalization Conditions" and the All-Ukrainian Scientific-Practical Conference "Economics and Management: Current Trends and Challenges", scientific reports of students are published in the Scientific Collection International Humanitarian University.
Scientific work involves both teachers and students, and their interaction allows us to move from the level of knowledge use to the level of their self-production. Students who participate in scientific clubs under the guidance of the department's staff members are published annually in scientific journals and participate in conferences held at the International Humanitarian University and other Ukrainian and foreign universities.

Olena Golovchenko - Doctor of Economics, Professor, has been working in tenure since 2011. In 2011, she defended her dissertation for a doctorate in economics on "Theoretical and methodological support for overcoming threats to the stable economic development of the regions of Ukraine".

More than 150 scientific and methodological works have been published, 4 of which are monographs (2 are separate works, and the other 2 are 3 sections of monographs), three educational manuals, sections in two textbooks; more than 75 scientific articles of which are in professional journals, including 2 scientific publications in professional periodicals, which are included in scientometric bases, more than 100 scientific articles.
